Problem: Overwhelm - The Solution: One Thing

Happy New Year Shaklee Family! Just so you know, I do not use ChatGPT to write my emails or articles. You’ll get my real words, complete with the occasional spelling and punctuation errors.  At least you’ll know it’s authentic! 😄 I wanted to briefly touch on a problem that many of us face, myself included, when we roll around to the new year. That is overwhelm. You thought I was going to say resolutions, or health goals, didn’t you? We all seem to make resolutions and many of those resolutions center around some health goal. Lose weight, build strength, run a mini marathon. Whatever it is, we set it, we may even take the necessary steps to achieve it, then come sometime in February we give up. Life gets busy, we have an illness or injury setback and Bam! We’ve fallen off the wagon, so-to-speak. It happens. I have learned there is a pattern and often the reason we don’t accomplish our new year goals is because we sometimes try to change too much, too soon. ...

Collagen9 - What Is It?

What Is Collagen? Collagen is the most abundant naturally occurring protein found in our body. It helps hold our body together by anchoring cells to each other, providing both structure and strength to our skin, bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. How Is Collagen Made? Our bodies make collagen naturally. We combine amino acids (the building blocks of all proteins) to do this. This process also requires other important nutrients, including some vitamins and minerals. But as we age, our body’s ability to make collagen begins to decline. Our body may no longer absorb nutrients as well or synthesize them as efficiently. As a result, we may experience collagen loss, which can lead to some common signs of aging. These include stiff joints, sagging skin, brittle nails, lackluster hair, and wrinkles. Why Should I Take Collagen? As we age and begin to experience side effects from collagen loss, we can support the production of collagen to lessen these effects. Collagen-9™ provides th...

The Blood Sugar & Weight Connection

Weight loss has always been associated with calorie counting, restrictive diets, or rigorous workout programs. Just look at how many diet programs are out there making tall promises which only yield short-term, disappointing results. What most people don't realize is that there's an easier way to achieve sustainable weight loss, and that is by  balancing your blood sugar levels . Blood sugar simply refers to the amount of sugar or glucose in your blood, which comes from carbohydrates. During digestion, carbohydrates are broken down into sugar molecules and sent to your bloodstream, increasing your blood-sugar levels. The hormone insulin is then released to bring the sugar out of your blood – and into your cells to be converted into energy. Any excess sugar from your meal that isn’t being used for energy right away gets stored as fat. So how does all this work? Highly refined carbs like white bread, high fructose corn syrup, and other sweet carbs are quickly digested and absorbe...

Things To Help You Adapt To The Time Change And Have More Energy

Yawn…stretch…ugh, I could use a nap. Sound like you? Kids cranky? Yep, same here. The other day our daughter said that she heard they are considering stopping the daylight savings time change. I laughed out loud…hard. I’ve heard that promise for 40 years! So, until they decide to change it, here are a few tips to get you through it until your body can adjust. I’m talking things to help you have more energy. Sleep. I’m willing to bet you didn’t go to bed early last night and now you feel exhausted. Going forward however, you really need to think about your schedule and cut out the extra stuff that is keeping you and your kids from getting enough sleep. You know that kids through teen years need 10+ hours and you need at least 8 per night, right? I don’t care that you can technically get up and show up for your day on 4-6 hours, your body needs at least 8. Don’t make me pull out all the science and health studies on it. If you don’t believe me, then you ma...

Back To School and How Do I Keep My Kids Healthy?

Well, most students have started back to school and college students will soon be as well. How are we going to keep them healthy this year? The answers most health professionals will give you is prevention and healthy immune systems. Let’s talk about prevention first. We all know now that washing your hands often is one of the best ways to prevent getting sick. It’s impossible not to touch contaminated surfaces especially in areas where large people congregate, like schools. So washing your hands with soap and water is your first line of defense. Washing before eating, after using the restroom and after times of touching multi-touched surfaces is key. Do not use antibacterial soaps. Overuse of these types of soaps along with the overuse and misuse of antibiotics are part of the reason we have some of these superbugs today. Plain old soap and water, washed well enough and long enough is plenty good enough. Haven’t we had this drilled into our heads enough by now? Next, we ...

Tips To Stop Emotional Eating

We don't always eat because we're hungry. Sometimes we turn to food for comfort, stress relief, or even as a reward. Here are some ways to stop emotional eating: Mindful Eating – You are most likely to forget how to distinguish between emotional and physical hunger when you are emotional and stressed. Mindful eating forces you to be mentally present and listen to your hunger cues. You do this by sitting down and focusing only on your meal. Focus on the smell, the taste, the textures. Slow down and only focus on what you are eating in the moment. Use your non-dominant hand to eat – Using your non-dominant hand will force you to slow down and think about what you are putting in your mouth. Develop fun alternatives – Go for a walk, have a dance party, hit a punching bag, call a friend, breathe deeply – these are just some examples of things you can do when emotional eating starts to take over. Have a plan in place as an alternative for when you find yourself emotionally ...
