6 Pillars of Brain Health

Here are the 6 Pillars of Brain Health according to The Cleveland Clinic:                             1. Physical Exercise - Exercise improves blood flow and memory; it stimulates chemical changes in the brain that enhance learning, mood and thinking.   2. Food and Nutrition - Food rich in antioxidants can help fend off the harmful effects of oxidation in your brain. 3. Medical Health - Hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, head trauma, higher cholesterol, and smoking increase the risk of dementia. 4. Sleep and Relaxation - Sleep energizes you, improves your mood and your immune system, and may reduce build-up in the brain of an abnormal protein called beta-amyloid plaque, which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease.   5. Mental Fitness - Mental exercises may improve your brain's functioning and promote new brain cell growth, decreasing your likelihood of developing dementia. ...

Beating Winter's Blues With Moodlift

Winter grays got you down? I know it can get to me. I can occasionally feel blue for what appears to be no apparent reason. Or sometimes I just can feel blah. Usually some sunlight and warmer temperatures snap me out of it. But some people need a little extra help. Not enough to necessarily see a doctor and go on harsh and sometimes dangerous antidepressants – they’re not feeling that bad. They just don’t feel as upbeat as they usually do. It often times may just mean that stress has taken a toll on them and winter time with its lack of sunlight doesn’t help any. In comes MoodLift. See below on how MoodLift may be able to help you with the winter time blahs. MoodLift®  C om plex*   Natural Help for a Positive Mental Outlook* Everyone wants to feel upbeat and enjoy life to the fullest. Yet p eriods of sadness are an inherent part of the human experience. Life’s events and ongoing stresses can trigger m elancholy...and sometimes people feel “blue” for no apparent reason. ...

What Do Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure & Diabetes Have In Common?

What do these major health issues have in common?  They all can come from a lack of sleep. While talking about sleep may sound boring – enough to put you to sleep - getting enough of it is crucial to good health. When someone tells me, “All I need is 4-5 hours and I’m good” I’m not impressed. In fact it annoys me, because they think I should be impressed with how late they stay up and still do a day’s work. I don’t think they’re cool; I think they’re acting stupid, maybe because of a lack of sleep. Here’s what happens when you don’t get enough sleep: Lose Your Sex Drive – I thought this first one would get your attention fast.  Sleep specialists report that those who aren’t getting the recommended hours of restful sleep a night say they have a lower libido and men show a drop in testosterone. So before reaching for some testosterone building pills, maybe you could use more hours snoozing in bed. Health Problems Start or Get Worse – Not enou...

Can The Health Of Your Gut Affect Your Mood?

Many people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, memory loss, addictions, migraines and more, may actually have a health problem in their gut. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is actually called the “Second Brain”. When we were being formed in our mother’s womb, two brains were formed. One obviously went to our head and the other one went to our gut. They are connected together through the Vagus nerve. This allows both of the brains to communicate. An example of that would be, when you are experiencing high moments of stress, fear or anxiety you may feel “butterflies” in your stomach, or you may feel queasy, or if it’s a very negative situation you may feel like someone “punched you in the stomach”. We’ve all felt such feelings in our gut during strong emotions. That is because one of the vital aspects of our digestion system is the production of serotonin – the “feel good” hormone. Most people think it comes from your head, but actually over 95% of the body’...

What Dangers Are Around Your Baby?

When you have a new baby in the house or your baby is just starting to be mobile, what are some of the things you do to make their home safe? Car seats Baby gates Outlet covers Cabinet locks These are just a few items. There are many safety items for baby out there as you know and as a conscientious parent, you try and make your baby’s environment as safe as you can. And you would never dream of spraying a chemical like a bleach cleaner or air freshener “on” your baby’s skin or around your baby laying on the floor. Yet, what do most of us do when baby goes to bed? We get those same chemicals out and spray them all over the baby’s environment… the high chair tray they eat off of, the floor they crawl on, the air they breathe – it doesn’t make any sense. These chemicals are proven to cause, organ damage, brain damage, allergies, asthma, eczema, behavior problems and more. Again, it makes no sense to use dangerous products that cause more harm than the d...
