My
son had many, many ear infections when he was little. I was on Shaklee for
years, and was only nursing when he got his first two at 5 weeks old! Imagine
how bad it would have been if not for Shaklee.
Anyway,
we were advised at about 2½ years old to get tubes...I wouldn't do it without a
fight, and I didn't have to. The ENT put him on a sulpher drug for 3 months,
while we also changed his diet, eliminating dairy products completely, for a
while, (substituting with soy products) and of course, giving him any Shaklee
we could get down him, vita-c, chew vita-lea, chew cal, herb-lax, etc. (it was
a long time ago, and I cannot remember all...)
After
we got him well, wouldn't you know it, we had been struggling with this for
over 2 years, the pediatrician said something to the effect that he thought
most of these children's chronic ear infections were caused by an allergy to
dairy! (I thought he could've told me before I figured it out myself...like 2
years before!)

Nathan's
Story
Nathan
is our 2 year-old. Because I had tested positive for Strep B while I was
carrying him he was at high risk to develop Septicemia. We had almost lost my
oldest son 18 years ago with the same thing so the doctor wanted to take the
cautious route.
He
was administered intravenous antibiotics from the moment he was born. The usual
treatment is to give antibiotics to the mother during labor but there was not
time as my labor was only 45 minutes!
I
believe because the antibiotics killed out the good bacteria along with the bad
his immune system never even had a chance to develop. By the time he was 9
months old he had experienced bronchitis, a double ear infection and numerous
colds.
I
tried talking to my pediatrician about my concerns but on 2 occasions was told
this was normal. I couldn't accept this as being "normal" because he
was breast-fed and my mother's instinct said something was wrong with this
picture. I was becoming increasingly concerned about having a sickly child and
wasn't there something I could do?
Enter
Shaklee's Optiflora. When he was 10 months I began giving Nathan 1/4 tsp. prebiotic
and a pearl everyday. I also added Infants Vita lea and Vita-C chewables dissolved
in juice. Two months ago I started him on 1 tsp. of Protein in his milk.
The wonderful
news is---he has not had an ear infection since!! He's had a few colds but the
duration is much less. I have increased the probiotic to 1/2 tsp. and when he
does get a cold I give him two doses a day. Hope this helps others in their
quest to keep their children healthy!!
