We all know that exercising is a big part of getting fit,
but how we do it can determine whether or not we stick with it.
Most of us at one time or another has made the decision to
start working out. Then when we start, we are surprised at how out of shape we
are. The exercises are hard, we are more winded than we know we should be.
Afterwards, we may be a bit depressed, our muscles are sore and we feel like
well, a failure some times.
I know this because I have done this…more than once. Our problem is we often go too fast, too hard, too soon.
I love doing the Shaklee 180™ Burst Workout they provide to
us for free. It’s quick, it’s fun and it really does get you moving. It proved
to me you really don’t need a lot of time to get fit.
That being said however, the workouts can be tough and
frankly due to my level of fitness and the old injuries I have to my knees and
back, I simply cannot do all of them exactly like they show.
I still do the workouts, I just modify them. If there is
some jumping that is painful to my knees I either don’t jump as hard or high or
sometimes I just step instead of hop. If I can’t do the type of strength
training they are showing that day, then I do a modified version I can do.
And I don’t beat myself up if I can’t do it for the 20
second bursts they do it for. See, I realize that if I take it slow, work at my
own pace and know my limits, then I will get stronger, I will get faster and I
will reach my goal. And I am certainly NOT a failure unless I quit. Then and
only then will I have failed myself.
So the key to not failing, is slow and steady and cut yourself
some slack, especially if you aren’t in the best of shape. The strength and
speed will come and it will come faster than you think.

Julie
